Miami Gardens, FL

Client: Archdiocese of Miami

SCOPE OF WORK

The master plan expansion sits on (8) acres and includes an elderly affordable housing facility for the community elders with its own parking area. The elderly affordable housing building is a 4-story, 65,000 square-foot, 90-unit apartment building.

The ground floor contains a dayroom for community gatherings and everyday activities; tenant amenities and building support areas consisting of an exercise room, meeting room, day room, classroom, restroom, kitchen, storage room, administrative office, mail room and entry lobby. It also has 2 elevators, stairs, restrooms, and exterior terraces.

This project began as an USHUD Section 202 Apartment building for the Elderly, 4 stories and 90 units and later the separate chapel with (64) seating capacity, conference and meeting rooms, lounge and outdoor prayer terraces.

The chapel is oriented East-West with the main entry facing West and a regional avenue. The large cross announces the chapel, protects from the harsh West sun and provides an open “foyer” before entry to chapel. The clearstory, illumination, solution serves to daytime illuminate and reduce energy costs (Roman invention) and the twelve (apparats) light openings on the South Wall is a tribute to Colline Notre Dame du Hout Chapel in France by Le Corbusier.
